Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer

LOCATION:   Southwest

OVERVIEW

This person will be providing all transmission related support for the development of renewable energy projects within the Western US, everything from the prospecting phase of a project through interconnection. They will support developer’s interest on all levels: local, regional, and FERC level regulatory issues. This individual will also determine the optimum strategy for interconnecting the project output to the electric grid based on system impact assessments and market delivery options.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This person will be in charge of assessing actual grid capacity in a region by reviewing and verifying technical studies performed by transmission providers. They will use analytical tools and methods to determine optimum plan for interconnection. This person will also communicate and negotiate with the regional transmission providers to develop the most efficient and cost-effective plan for integrating the project into the electric power grid.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 5+ years of experience in Power System Planning, preferably dealing with generation interconnection and TSR (Transmission Service Requests) system impact studies (OATT and LGIP).
• Using one or more power system analysis packages such as: PSSE, PSLF or Power World Simulator to perform studies.
• Experience analyzing the transmission systems/markets of: WECC, PJM, ERCOT, NY-ISO, NE-ISO, MISO
• Experience with LGIP, and regional reliability analysis is preferred
• Experience with power system transient stability analysis is preferred;
• Project management experience is preferred
• Well-developed understanding of electrical utility planning and operations.
• Familiarity with current regulatory requirements, including an understanding of FERC and the Transmission Provider Tariffs for generation interconnection.
• Ability to work on short timelines, with less than complete information.
• Must have valid drivers license and good driving record.
• Proficient user of MS Office.
